Fake Medicare Equipment or Coverage Claims

How it works:

Fraudsters submit false claims to Medicare for medical devices or services you never received. These can include braces, wheelchairs, or health screenings.

What to look for:

Suspicious charges in your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) or Medicare Summary Notice (MSN)

Claims for services you didn’t use

How to Avoid:

Keep a record of your legitimate Medicare appointments and compare them against your statements. Report anything unusual right away.

BE AWARE - of SIM SWAPPING

How to protect against SIM swap:

Go into your mobile phone carrier’s app or website and add SIM protection at no cost to you. Or, call their customer service dept. for assistance.

SIM Protection gives you the ability to lock lines on your account to prohibit changes to the SIM cards associated with those lines. Any request to change your SIM will not be processed until you unlock the SIM protection on your phone.

Persons of Interest in Elderly Crime Spree

Last Thursday, Decemeber 11, 2025 LVMPD released the attached press release relating to a Crime Spree Targeting the Senior Community. Please read it and share with others.

Detectives are asking for the community’s help to identify suspects involved in a crime spree
targeting the elderly community. The incidents started in February of this year and have occurred
throughout various parts of the valley.
The suspects identify senior individuals wearing high-end jewelry and approach them while in a
vehicle and ask for directions. After being provided the directions, the suspects offer a prayer in
gratitude. During the prayer, they remove the victim’s jewelry, oftentimes without the victim knowing,
before leaving the area in a vehicle.
The suspects have been described as Middle Eastern or Eastern European males and females
ranging in age from 20 to 60 years old with distinct Eastern European accents. The individuals have
been seen in several different vehicles in each of the events.

Please use the following link for photos of the suspects involved:

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim, knows who these suspects might be, or has any
information about any vehicles the suspects may be driving is urged to contact LVMPD Detectives
by phone at 702-828-8577. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 702-385-
5555, or on the internet at www.crimestoppersofnv.com.
